  1. Memphissippi Sounds – “Crossroads”
from: Welcome to the Land / Memphissippi Sounds / September 20, 2021
[Memphissippi Sounds are Cameron Kimbrough on vocals, guitar, & percussion, and The Legendary Yella P on vocals, guitar, and blues harp. One fateful summer night in a club on Beale Street, the paths of two uniquely gifted musicians aligned. Cameron Kimbrough (grandson of Junior Kimbrough and native of the famed Mississippi hill country) brought his raw, stripped-down rhythms from the open air of Potts Camp, MS, to the crowded room. As the audience took in Kimbrough’s drum beats, another powerful and mesmerizing voice emerged – the sound of Damion “Yella P” Pearson’s harmonica. // An instant connection grew from this chance encounter, and Cam and Yella teamed up to form Memphissippi Sounds. Kimbrough had grown up hearing the blues at his grandfather’s juke joint, and he later taught himself to play. Yella P was also self-taught on the harmonica. He bought his first blues harp at age 13, spending countless hours honing his style and listening to the blues on Beale Street. Memphissippi Sounds officially debuted their custom sound (a blend of North Mississippi hill country blues combined with Memphis blues, soul, and hip-hop) at the New Daisy Theatre while opening up for guitar legend Eric Gales. Since then, they’ve taken the Memphissippi sound on the road, playing everywhere from juke joints to major music festivals throughout the United States and abroad. In 2021, Memphissippi Sounds released their critically acclaimed debut album, Welcome to the Land, a project that charted internationally and also earned them their first Blues Awards nomination for Best Emerging Artist Album.]

  1. The Chunk – “Gateway Drug”
from: The Chunk: Greatest Hits World Tour, vol. 1 / Skank Records / April 20, 2022
[The Chunk is a high energy punk rock power trio that is pioneering a genre they call “Chunk Rock”. With a mix of ska, punk, reggae, hard rock, and their signature chunk spice this new sound aims to hit hard and make you feel the groove. Bryan, Ollie, and Jansen first met in 2014 on the University of Kansas Drumline where they all picked up a heavily rhythmical influence and the same sense of rehearsal etiquette. It would only be years later in 2017 when they decided to get together in the basement of Bryan’s parents’ house to play some Sublime and Blink 182 covers and that’s where it all started. From there they built a library of classics and made themselves into the perfect band for your weekend house party and would go on to play many living rooms and basements. Their original music is made of aggressive riffs, fast tempos, and is designed to turn the vibe up to eleven. Electric performances paired with a bit of witty banter, The Chunk always puts on a good show. More info at: wwwchunkrock.com]

I decided to grab my iPad and began recording something that I am very proud of. I named it, At the Close of A Decade, and released it in November 2019. With my iPhone/iPad, some apple headphones, I created this project. The amazing people around me told me it was worth it, even when I didn’t believe it myself. I convinced myself I would be the only one that liked my songs. If you decide to listen you’ll hear sound clips of shows and movies that made a difference in the way I saw the world, the way I saw myself, and the way I overcame my experiences. I remember asking my grandma and my son if I should release what I’ve been writing and they both said very simply to do it, so I’ve done it. I want to thank all of my wonderful friends who have been my soundboards during this process, all of the people that have asked me when it’s coming, the people that have kept me accountable, and believed that this time it was for real. Julia Othmer was our guest on WMM on September 1, 2021 and March 9, 2022. and May 18, 2022. // From Song Facts.com: Sinéad O’Connor wrote this song for her second album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got. She makes her thoughts on England clear in this song, where she sings: “England’s not the mythical land of Madame George and roses, It’s the home of police who kill black boys on mopeds”. // Growing up in Ireland, she felt that England often acted as oppressor, both to Irish citizens and their own citizens of the lower classes, particularly Jamaican immigrants. Still, she ended up living in London as her music career took off, and that’s when she wrote this song. In her memoir Rememberings, she told the story: “‘Black Boys On Mopeds’ is based on a true story involving two young teenagers near where I lived in London. They had taken a cousin’s moped without asking permission; the cops were called and gave chase; the boys got frightened, crashed, and died. This was at a time when there was a terrible scandal in London about Black men going missing in police stations. It was a time in London also when if a burglar was apprehended, he was reported as a ‘Black burglar’ (or, alternatively, an ‘Irish burglar’). There was a lot of tension created between Londoners on the one hand and the Jamaicans and the Irish on the other.” // Karl Wallinger of World Party and The Waterboys worked on the song’s arrangement with O’Connor, who played acoustic guitar on the track.]
