6. The Sexy Accident – “Under Summer Stars”

Jesse Kates and Camry Ivory are part of the Kansas City based band, The Sexy Accident and their new full length release, “Ninja Ninja Fight Darth Vader” was released on Record Store Day, April 21. This week the band released a new music video for their song “What We’d Do” directed, filmed, & edited by Zac Eubank of Aren’t We Clever Productions. You can download the track at music.sexyaccident.com. All of the song’s proceeds go to charity.

The band’s 4th full length release, “Ninja Ninja Fight Darth Vader,” was released on April 21, and the band performed at Vinyl Renaissance on West 39th Street on Record Store Day

Jesse said that this was “the best thing that I, personally, have ever made (not counting my kids.”

Speaking of your kids, we played just a few moments of track 11, the title track.

Jesse’s son Toby sings lead vocals and wrote the song “Ninja Ninja Fight Darth Vader”

The current The Sexy Accident includes: Jesse Kates, Daniel Torrence, Camry Ivory, and Michael Young.

Jesse wrote in his blog that this “whole thing started in March, 2010, when you wrote “I Guess I’ll Never Know” while driving home from a show in Columbia, MO.

The new release was produced, engineered and mixed in Kansas City and Seattle by Steve Fisk (Low, Unwound, Harvey Danger, Nirvana, The Wedding Present).

Jason Vivone is the former Kansas City Blues Society’s International Blues Challenge solo winner. His band the Billy Bats were crowned KINGS OF THE ROOTS at the showdown at the Blue Note in Columbia, Missouri. In an annual event held by the Missouri Lottery and the Roots and BBQ fest, the Billy Bats beat out three other bands with their soulful, energetic live show.

Jason Vivone & The Billy Bats have a new album called “Lather Rinse Repeat.” and a CD Release show at Coda, Friday, May 4, at 8:00 PM. More info at billybats.com.

Jason was with us last November, not long after he had been in a car accident that injured his head, back, and neck. He was still recovering, then, and is still on the mend.

Last year Jason released his solo record “My Roaring Twenties.”

Jason talked about when he started writing songs and playing music, and how his Grandmother was his greatest musical influence.
