Nan Turner

Nan wrote on facebook about her new EP: “This whole thing started out as an experiment, but I have to say I’m proud as hell with how it turned out. I was just going to record one or maybe two songs. HA HA Welcome to my FIVE SONGER!!! Some songs were written out of heartbreak and some just made me laugh. Just doing this was transformative…stuff was moving around, it was cathartic. I allowed myself to “write bad songs”. I highly recommend doing that because there’s bound to be a gold nugget somewhere in the bunch if you give yourself permission. Me and my guitar got reacquainted. We were “dancing in the dark.” I’ve never quoted Bruce Springsteen before,. but also I didn’t know I was going to record this EP, so you know. I’m rolling with shit. I had the luxury of working with Chase Horseman every week or two…giving myself ample time to add/rework stuff. I took the slow road and enjoyed the process. Chase has great ears and is uber-talented in his own right and he’s releasing an EP called Disinformation Blues on July 12, as well. He and Ian Dobyns (Dreamgirl, Chase The Horseman) were my rhythm section on a few of these tracks and brought the songs to life in the way they needed but I didn’t know they needed (just MORE one nite stands I’m adding to the crew ha ha)!”

Chase has been out of town premiering new music he created for film.

Frida the dog help in the production.

11:06 – Interview with The Moose and Nathan Reusch of TRM

Nathan Reusch is founder of The Record Machine, a homegrown record label started in 2003. Originally created to promote music from Kansas City & Lawrence, TRM has grown to turnout records from bands all across the country. Nathan is also co-founder & curator of the Middle of The Map Fest.

Jake Hilger, Alex Huffman, Emma Klein and Tyler Frey, are members of the band The Moose an alternative band from Lee’s Summit, formed in 2016.

The Moose and Nathan Reusch are to share details about What’s Next KC, Sat, July 13, at 6:00 PM at Legacy Park Amphitheater, 901 NE Bluestem Dr, Lees Summit, MO. This is an all ages, family friendly event featuring: NublvckCity, The Moose, and Blue False Indigo. There will be concessions available and a BBQ Food Truck. Sponsored by Mid-Continent Public Library and The Record Machine.

The Moose is an alternative band from Lee’s Summit, Missouri: a suburb of Kansas City.

Originally formed by Jake Hilger, Alex Huffman, and Tyler Frey in the summer of 2016, they were later completed with the additions of Emma Klein in August 2016.

The Moose began as a psychedelic, neo-rock band in the summer of 2016.

Jake Hilger, Alex Huffman, Emma Klein and Tyler Frey on the July 10, 2019 edition of Wednesday MidDay Medley on KKFI 90.1 FM.

Tyler, humored the idea after a choir show at their high school just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. Their plan went into full effect after the addition of Emma Klein (percussion and vocals). The group built their headquarters in Klein’s basement, hiding the cement walls with posters of their influencers: The Beatles, Tame Impala, and Electric Light Orchestra; and textile sheets separating their studio from their main base.

After many rumors of The Moose becoming an official band, the members spontaneously decided to have a Halloween Bash— costumes required— and unwarrantedly advertised so with posters all over their high school. Completely filling the backyard of Tozier’s house, fans all dressed up and singing classic rock covers with their new favorite band.

Because of the positive feedback from the Halloween bash, The Moose released their first single in February 2017, “New Kind Of Love,” which brought the band 15,000 listens and multiple bar shows with their name as the headliner.

The Moose’s success heightened after their performance at Battle of the Bands in Kansas City— winning first place and a cash prize. And once Frey— the oldest in the group— graduated from high school, summer kicked off, the band started taking their careers more officially.

In August of that year, The Moose released their first self-titled EP overflowing with classic psychedelic rock, and alternative sounds. The band did not receive as much support they originally began with but still sustained their local fan base, enabling them to continue bar shows and other small events.

After Middle of the Map Fest, and a concert at the recordBar in Kansas City, senior year was winding down for the rest of the band members. Parker Tozier who had joined the with Emma Klein in 2016, decided to pursue his aspirations at an out-of-state college, dropping the band from five to four.

The Moose released their debut album “The First Real Encounter” in December of 2018 on the winter solstice of 2018. They now prepare for a tour of the Midwest in the springtim

With backgrounds in choir, jazz band, and years of playing, each member implements their own unique touch to each track. The Moose’s “sound” includes ingredients of a funky alternative- pop/synth-rock genre, with heavy influences from neo-psychedelic bands k.

The Moose has played numerous shows and locations, such as: the recordBar, Llywelyn’s Pub, The Roxy, Aftershock, 825 Studios, and The Nelson-Atkins Museum,

The Moose won 2017 Shuttlerock: Teen Battle of the Bands at The Nelson-Atkins Museum. Winning the Battle of the Bands later gained them a spot on the Middle of the Map Festival Lineup, where artists such as Lewis Delmar, Jason Isbell, and De La Soul headlined.

11:30 – Interview with Joel Bonner & Daniel Glascock of Serene Fiend

Joel Bonner and his Serene Fiend live bandmate Daniel Glascock join us to share the radio broadcast debut of Serene Fiend’s flagship single, “Unto Myself” from the upcoming Serene Fiend album “Elegies and Effigies.” Serene Fiend is an industrial rock artist from Lawrence, KS that blends pop and glam sensibility with nuances of the various movements within the industrial subgenre. All of Serene Fiend’s music is composed, produced, and recorded by Joel Bonner. When Serene Fiend plays live Sam Piper & Daniel Glascock are part of the band. Sam Piper & Daniel Glascock play in the band Hyper Mortal.

Joel Bonner & Daniel Glascock thanks for being on WMM.

I Heart Local Music writes: “In the ever-evolving attempt to bring electronic music back into Lawrence’s scene, another musician has switched gears– this time leaning towards a more industrial sound.”

I Heart Local Music continues “It comes from an unlikely source. Serene Fiend is the latest project from Joel Bonner, the man who’s been bringing animated live shows and rockabilly licks to Lawrence over the past year with his band The Boot Stompers. It’s unsurprising that his buzzing and provocative guitar style carries over to this project, though he’s piled it on with a lot more synths and electronic beats.”

Joel Bonner and his Serene Fiend live bandmate Daniel Glascock join us to share the radio broadcast debut of Serene Fiend’s flagship single, “Unto Myself” from the upcoming Serene Fiend album “Elegies and Effigies.”

Joel Bonner, & Daniel Glascock of Serene Fiend thanks for being on WMM.

Unto Myself lyrics:

I’m not afraid to die, I’m just afraid of loss
My strength means nothing if I’m not tough enough
I am an effigy – new possibility
I must be decimated to be built back up

And I will die unto myself
And I will try to heal myself
All for you

Sacrosanct as our romance, I will keep what I am
But the bee hive swarming in my head will be calm instead
I’ll come as you want me, I’ll be everything
The heart wants what it wants and I want to make me better
(to make us better)

And I will die unto myself
And I will try to heal myself
And I will live all for you
I will die unto myself
All for you

And when it all comes crashing down
I just want to lose myself in you

And I will die unto myself
And I will try to heal myself
And I will live all for you
I will die unto myself
All for you

The heart wants what it wants and I want to make me better
