The depth of KC’s local music scene is staggering. In a town known for Jazz and Blues, Punk music can be easily misunderstood, or marginalized, but Punk has always remained a nesessary outlet to bring Rock back to the basics, and the beat. Local punk bands also offer some of the best political lyrics, songs about: war, working families, & fair wages. We present 5 area punk bands playing Center of The City Fest, April 6-7, at The News Room.

Programming note:
Every Monday night at midnight, 90.1 FM KKFI airs KCDIY Radio, Kansas City’s last and only punk radio program. Each week is a themed selection of punk and hardcore from the past 30 years, including new music. From the early days of KKFI in 1988, through most all of the early 1990s Anne Winter hosted a long running punk show as Little Orphan Annie. Radio hasn’t always been a friend to Punk music.
