    [WMM’s Adopted Theme Song]
Momma
  1. Momma – “Speeding 72 (Radio Edit) – Single”
from: Household Name / Polyvinyl Records Co. / July 1, 2022
[Following Momma’s beloved 2020 LP Two of Me, which introduced the world to the symbiotic writing style and profound creative intuition of founders Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, the band’s third studio album Household Name reveals an exciting new chapter marked by both personal and artistic growth. Mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Emily Lazar, the album is a tightly-stitched collection that is magnetic and dynamic, and also marks their debut for Polyvinyl Record Co./Lucky Number—who signed Momma in the midst of the pandemic. // Bygone heroes helped inspire a lyrical theme throughout Household Name: the rise and fall of the rock star, and the tropes and tribulations that come with that arc. The theme allowed the group to celebrate (and, in some cases, directly reference) icons like Nirvana, Pavement, Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, and the Breeders’ Kim Deal, while weaving in their own perspective and experiences. The album perfects a balance of heavy riffs, deep emotions, inviting sonic production, and a lighthearted, wry sense of humor, creating a singular lane for Momma in today’s world of alt rock.]
Quite Frankly
  1. Quite Frankly – “Might Be”
    from: “Might Be” – Single / Quite Frankly / August 1, 2022
[“Might Be” is the follow up to the band’s earlier single, “Is This Still Even Fun?” that was released on October 22, 2021. Before that they released, “Blue/Red” on May 14, 2021. In the dawn of 2016, shy but precocious middle schooler, founding member and bassist Scout Matthew, decided she wanted to try her hand at turning her musical ambition into reality by creating a band that would take her and her friends well beyond their beginning musical education at School of Rock. She began planning rehearsals out of her garage and within a short time, she convinced her supportive family to renovate their home’s basement into a rehearsal space. Ever since, Quite Frankly the Band has been committed to perfecting its sound, writing their own original music and adding amazing covers. // This young band is no longer just a student band, holding its own opening for, The Greeting Committee, The Darbies, John Corabi, The Jacks and LA Guns! with several yers experience the band members have moved into high school and beyond, Jolson, Carolyn, Scout, Gavin & Eli have built an impressive resume. // The band gained attention by being the youngest winners of the Nelson Atkins Battle of The Bands 2018 and for being nominated as Pitch’s “Best in KC” two years in a row. They’ve played First Fridays in the Crossroads, Starlight Theater, The Rino, recordBar, Lemonade Park, Kauffman Stadium, Sprint Center with Big Slick and Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame. Maggie Rogers
  1. Maggie Rogers – “Want Want”
    from: Surrender / Capitol Records – Debay Sounds / July 29, 2022
[Surrender is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers. Born Margaret Debay Rogers on April 25, 1994, she is an American singer-songwriter and record producer from Easton, Maryland. Her big break came when her song “Alaska” was played to Pharrell Williams during a master class at New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2019. She graduated from Harvard Divinity School in May 2022. Maggie Rogers grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland along the banks of the Miles River in Easton, Talbot County, Maryland. Her father is a now-retired Ford Motor Company dealer and her mother, a former nurse, is now an end-of-life doula. She began playing harp at age seven and loved the music of Gustav Holst and Antonio Vivaldi. Her mother would play neo-soul artists such as Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. By the time she was in middle school, Rogers had added piano and guitar to her repertoire and began songwriting in eighth grade. For high school, she attended St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware as well as The Gunston School on the Corsica River in Centreville, Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. At school, she played harp in the orchestra, sang in the choir, joined a jazz band, learned banjo and became interested in folk music, and taught herself how to program. She also spent many summers during her formative years at a rural camp in Maine. The summer after her junior year in high school, Rogers attended a Berklee College of Music program and won the program’s songwriting contest, which spurred her to focus on writing.[4] During her high school senior year, she recorded what became her first album, The Echo (2012). Rogers included her demos as part of her application to New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. She secured admission and started in 2012.]
Kasey Rausch
  1. Kasey Rausch – “She Said Goodbye”
    from: “She Said Goodbye”-Single / Kasey Rausch / July 8, 2022
[Written by Kasey Rausch with: Kasey Rausch on vocals & acoustic guitar; Marco Pascolini on baritone guitar; Fred Wickham on electric guitar; Richard Burgess on electric bass; Sweet Matt Brahl on drums; Kelly Hunt on harmony vocals; and Kristin Hamilton on harmony vocals. Engineered and Mixed at Temple Sounds, Kansas City, MO by Brendan Moreland. Mastered at Oddio Hut, Shawnee, KS by Chad Meise. Spring 2022. Kasey says: ““I wrote “She Said Goodbye” as I was experiencing burn-out from the music industry. I quit touring in 2018 and almost entirely quit gigging in 2019. I took a job as a caregiver for a woman with Alzheimers and saw that through to her end-of-life. After some recuperation time for my heart, I began writing feverishly and slowly readied myself for studio work, preparing to record about 30 songs. I called on my longtime band mates in The Country Duo and The Naughty Pines, and two of my favorite vocalists and songwriters, who also happen to be dear friends, Kelly Hunt and Kristin Hamilton, and we made this lil’ gem of a recording happen with the talented engineer and co-producer, Brendan Moreland (Rex Hobart & The Misery Boys). The band mates and I have more music in the recording process and will be releasing songs throughout 2022 and beyond. The goal is not to make a record, but to catalog these songs for my family and have a heck of a good time enjoying the process – which includes getting back to playing live music. I’m ready and I’m falling in love with music again.” // Kasey Rausch (she/her/they) is a 5th generation musician, songwriter, former producer/host of River Trade Radio on KKFI 90.1FM and former host of “Campfire” on DittyTV. She plays live and records with multiple variations of the bands The Country Duo, Kasey & The Pines, and The Naughty Pines. Her roots can be found in the Kansas City area, the Missouri Ozarks, Winfield, Kansas (home of the Walnut Valley Festival), and deep Southeast Texas. She was featured with band mate Marco Pascolini as The Country Duo on the legendary Sun Studio Sessions TV show which aired across the US and Canada. No Depression called Rausch’s vocals “tender and intuitive.” Her third album, Guitar in Hand, debuted at #3 on the Roots Music Reporting charts and was voted one of the top three albums of the year by readers of The Pitch, KC’s entertainment guide. She was named 2016’s Best of the Northland (Artist), 2013’s Female Performer of the Year by The Farmer’s Turnpike on KMXN 92.9 FM, and has shared the stage with Joe Ely, Peter Rowan, Amy LaVere & Will Sexton, Roland White, William Elliot Whitmore, Gregory Alan Isokvo, Iris DeMent, Ray Bonneville, Kris Delmhorst, Justin Townes Earle, Tish Hinojosa, Jack Williams and many more. The album explores themes of love, heartache, empowerment, and togetherness through a varying landscape of hard-hitting funk, luscious soul, and everything in between. The Freedom Affair is a unique collective featuring 3 powerhouse female vocalists in front of a dynamic 6-piece band. On “Freedom Is Love”, each of the ladies get their time to shine individually, but the magic is on full display when all 3 come together in unison and harmony, symbolically embodying the messages that they sing about. The album was recorded and produced by Chris Hazelton, utilizing the best of vintage and new recording technologies to create an authentic experience, befitting of a soul record that would have been relevant 50 years ago as much as it will be 50 years from now. The Freedom Affair is: Misha Roberts on vocals; Paula Saunders on vocals; Seyko Groves on vocals; Cole Bales on guitar, sitar (Track 3); Branden Moser on guitar; Chris Hazelton on bass guitar, organ (Tracks 1, 2, 9, & 10), Tambourine (Track 1), Glockenspiel (Track 3), & Chimes (Track 4); Dave Brick on drums; Pete Carroll on trumpet; Brett Jackson on tenor sax, baritone sax (Tracks 1 & 5), & tambourine (Tracks 5, 6, & 8). The Freedom Affair and their track “Rise Up” were selected to be part of Colemine Records 3xLP box set, “Soul Slabs Vol. 2” a Record Store Day Exclusive, released April 13, 2019. Colemine writes: “The Freedom Affair is a freight train of KC soul! Dirty, funky drums, gritty horns, and the combined vocals of Misha Roberts, Seyko Groves, and Paula Saunders to put this band over the top. Politically charged soul music for the dancefloor!” Chris Hazelton joined us on WMM on September 16, 2020.]
