5. The ACB’s – “Television” (Vinyl)

[Konnor Ervin, Bryan McGuire, Andrew Connor, and Kyle Rausch are The ACB’s. This week the band is releasing their new full length: “Little Leaves,” from High Dive Records. After five years of being nominated, The ACB’s won the 2012 Pitch Music Award for Best Pop Band. Their songs have been featured on MTV’s The Inbetweeners, and on Daytrotter. Their lead single, “Ocean,” released in late 2012, moved Popmatters to declare The ACB’s as one of its “Best Hopes to Break Out in 2013.” The ACB’s were our guests on Feb. 27. The ACB’s have been nominated for a Pitch Music Award for Best Pop Band.]

SSION, (pronounced “shun”) was formed in 1996, in Kansas City, by multi-talented vocalist, visual artist, musician, performance artist, music video director, Cody Critcheloe. SSION, have been known for their extravagant live shows and amazingly crerative and hilarious videos. SSION has toured with Gossip, Fischerspooner, CSS, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Cody Critcheloe has served as Music Video Director music videos from Santigold, CSS, Peaches, Gossip, and Tilly & the Wall. Ssion recently toured doing shows in San Francisco, Arizona, Texas, New Orleans, Atlanta, DC, Baltimore, Brooklyn.]

Playwright, Actor, Director – Philip Hooser joins us to talk about this year’s Kansas City Fringe Festival and the show he directed: EXTENDED 4PLAY containing four plays by Frank Higgins, Michael Ruth, Nicholas Sawin and Jack Phillips, playing at The Unicorn Theatre, 3828 Main St. KCMO, with final performances: Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 pm; Thursday, July 25 at 9:30 pm; and Friday, July 26 @ 8:00 pm. Cassie is looking for a one-night stand. Josh is hoping for something more. But then Cassie meets Josh’s friend Peggy, and all expectations are changed. Cassie needs to decide: how deep is she willing to go?

“Future Perfect” by Jack Phillips
Billy and Pat are in love. Before popping the question, Billy wants to discuss the past. Pat is leery. Billy plunges ahead and they find themselves with a serious problem.

“Górecki in Silence” by Nicholas Sawin
Geoff likes playing Super Mario Brothers music on his accordion. Mikołaj likes listening to Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 on his stereo. Geoff likes having loud sex with Dawn. Mikołaj doesn’t like listening to Geoff having loud sex with Dawn. One night, Mikołaj blasts his favorite record until Geoff comes up to silence the music. These housemates may soon discover that true communication occurs in the spaces between sounds.

“KOKO’s ACHILLES’ HEEL” by Frank Higgins.– Koko, the most intelligent gorilla in the world, knows everything about everything…except love; but when she decides to learn first hand about love, and finds a gorilla that she’s attracted to, what exactly is she about to learn?

[Released on White Vinyl! Joshua Browning served the band as producer and engineer. The songs were recorded over a three year period, where the band was also constantly touring, living on the road, keeping the van running. 8. Schwervon! – “Truth Teller” (Vinyl)
from: Courage / Olive Juice Records / September 28, 2012 [Schwervon! is a two piece rock band. Nan plays drums and Matt plays guitar and they both sing. They lived in NYC for 15 years and have just relocated to Kansas City. Last year they opened for both The Vaselines and Belle & Sebastian. They recorded Courage with Memphis-based engineer Doug Easley who has worked with Pavement, Sonic Youth, Cat Power. In a gross oversight, Schwervon! was not nominated for a Pitch Music Award.]

Ghosty is Andrew Connor, Mike Nolte an Bill Belzer who recorded their new album themselves over the last couple of years with help from David Wetzel, Josh Adams, Jake Blanton, Konnor Ervin, Ryan Connor, Kirsten Paludan, and Dan Talmadge.
