[Love Always is a side project of Kathy Foster, bassist and founder of the Portland, Oregon, based band, The Thermals. She also performs under the name Butterfly Transformation Service. She is the owner of the T-shirt company Daydream Factory. Battle Hymns is a compilation album created in direct response to the current political situation in the U.S.A – it is a protest record! Released digitally on inauguration day in opposition to the new administration. 3. Mary Timony – “Fight The Hate”

[Mary B. Timony was born October 17, 1970, and is an American independent singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, and violist. She has been a member of the bands Helium, Autoclave and Wild Flag, and currently fronts the band Ex Hex. Timony’s music is often heavy and dark, frequently using drones, beats, and modal melodies reminiscent of European Medieval music. She uses a number of alternate guitar tunings, most prominent of which is DADGAE, which allows for the execution of melodic passages. WE LOVE HER!]

Marion Merritt is our most frequent contributor to WMM, She grew up in Los Angeles, and St. Louis. She went to college in Columbia, Missouri. She studied art and musical engineering, and is a avid lover of classic films and punk rock music. She saw Talking Heads on their first tour when they played One Block West, in 1978. For over twelve years she has been sharing her musical discoveries and information from her encyclopedic brain on Wednesday MidDay Medley. Marion has joined us for every on-air fund drive of the past 12 years to help us raise funds for the MidCoast Radio Project. Marion is the creator of Records With Merritt, a small, independent, minority owned business, at 1614 Westport Rd. in Kansas City, Missouri. And in the spirit of Anne Winter, a renegade who helped launch KKFI, Marion Merritt is keeping the tradition of, female-owned, independent record stores, alive on Westport Rd. Nico Gray has been placing the needle on the record before he was able to
read and turn pages of a book. His musical interests come from a wide variety of influences, and from learning to communicate through the sound of music and the usage of lyrical expression. Rooted in Kansas City, and growing up in front of a radio, he is a former theatre actor, performance artist, writer, and is currently a marketing and advertising consultant, where he serve Union Station. Nico is an avid concert goer, his search for his own “Original Music Soundtrack” to his life has transplanted him to the brownstones of Chicago, the rooftops of Paris, the sea-side of Marseille and the balconies of New York City. Music has served as the ‘passport’ throughout his spiritual journeys.

While the spirit of this station is kept alive by hundreds of volunteers who passionately donate their time and abilities to keep the transmission of our 100,000-watt-signal alive. We are a operated by a not-for-profit organization, incorporated over 35 years ago, called The MidCoast Radio Project. We’re non-profit, but we still have to pay the electric bill, the rent on our fully accessible production studios and offices, the insurance, and for our small staff. Even though we have hundreds of committed volunteers, who donate thousands of hours every year, producing radio shows, answering phones, creating websites, producing benefits, rewiring the board, setting up our computer system, we still need YOU, our listener, to donate to keep us alive!

5. Calvin Arsenia – “Safe”

Since Calvin Arsenia came home to KC after living in Edinburgh, Scotland, he has released his EP, Moments, in 2014, and his EP Prose in 2015, and his Folk Alliance exclusive EP Catastrophe in 2016. He has played Folk Alliance International, Kansas City Fringe Fest, The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, The Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches, Arsenia’s powerful vocals span a 3.5 octave range, while playing piano, banjo, guitar and harp Calvin teaches music to elementary students. Too Much Rock, is a music site created by Sid Sowder in 1997, to share his original photographs, video, and commentary, of the live music shows he attends. Too Much Rock also hosts a musical podcast.

Several years ago Sid Sowder created the Too Much Rock – Singles Series, a collection of 45 rpm 7″ singles, featuring an original song from the band, with a cover song, chosen by Too Much Rock. 500 limited edition copies are pressed by Too Much Rock and given to the band. Kansas City based bands, Schwervon!, Rev Gusto, Josh Berwanger Band, The Uncouth, and Hipshot Killer have all recorded for the Too Much Rock Single Series.

We just heard the latest Too Much Rock release, the A-side, a new Witch Jail original song called, “Slimewave, USA!”

In just a few minutes we will proudly broadcast the world premiere of the Too Much Rock B-side, featuring Witch Jail, covering the Alien Sex Fiend song, “My Brain is in the Cupboard Above the Kitchen Sink.

Joining us live in the studio is Sid Sowder, founder of Too Much Rock, along with Guy Slimey and Eddie Morphine of the band Witch Jail,

The 45 rpm two-song single features one original track and one chosen by Too Much Rock. Sid Sowder talked about his passion of bringing these songs alive again with new recordings, and new interpretations.

Many of the Too Much Rock releases, involve Joel Nanos, and Element Recording Studios have been involved. Sid Sowder talked about how a partnership of music label and music studio has been forged through this series.
