[from Tulsa, Oklahoma, their 20th album, Race Riot Suite, written by Chris Combs for the current quartet of Brian Haas on piano & keyboards, Josh Raymer on drums, Chris Combs on lap steel and Jeff Harshbarger on upright bass. For this recording the band is accompanied by a horn section consisting of Sex Mob’s Steven Bernstein, Jeff Coffin (of Dave Matthews and Bela Fleck fame), Mark Southerland (Snuff Jazz, Malachy Papers), Peter Apfelbaum, and former JFJO member Matt Leland. The album is dedicated to the victims of the 1921 Tulsa race riot, the largest race riot in United States history. Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey will be in concert at Crosstown Station, 1522 McGee, Friday, Sept. 16, w/ The Hearts of Darkness, in one of the final shows at Crosstown Station before it is overtaken by IHOP. Bassist and Radio Host Jeff Harshbarger joins us next week on WMM to talk about Race Riot Suite, the tour, and their show at Crosstown Station.]

Joining us now, as he has done for the last 7 years, is Bill Sundahl the founder and organizer of The Crossroads Music Festival, Spice of Life Productions, The Donkey Show, The Spring Dance and lead singer and founder of the band The Columns.
The Safes and Auto Deco will be kicking off the CMFKC with a Pre-festival in-store performance at 2:00 at Vinyl Renaissance 39th & Wyoming. Vinyl Renaissance is helping to produce the festival this year.
Another exciting addition to this year’s festival is the Legal Bootcamp for Musicians presented by the Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers & Accountants on Saturday, September 10, 2011 12:00PM to 5:00PM. This bootcamp will provide information on copyrights, contracts, financing and business formation.

Victor & Penny is a Chicago and KC based duo singing music they call Antique Pop on ukulele and a lovely old guitar. Playing vintage instruments with modern sensibility, they bring a fresh twist to music of the early 20th century and unique arrangements of modern tunes with characteristic charm and good humor. V&P is Jeff Freling of the Chicago Blue Man Group and who attended Berklee School of Music; and Erin McGrane of the cabaret group Alacartoona and who was most recently seen on the big screen with George Clooney in “Up In The Air”. Victor & Penny are touring the USA in 11-2012.
