Wednesday MidDay Medley celebrate the 6th Annual Lawrence Field Day Fest, July 13-15, in Downtown Lawrence, Kansas, featuring near 100 bands at 8 venues with showcases from: Replay Records, I Heart Local Music, High Dive Records, Datura Records, Whatever Forever records, PEB Sounds, and Weepy Vision Productions.

2. Dressy Bessy – “Lady Liberty”

[Indie rock band from Denver, Colorado, associated with the Elephant Six Collective. Guitarist John Hill also plays with The Apples in Stereo. Lead vocalist/guitarist Tammy Ealom formed the band with drummer Darren Albert and guitarist turned bassist Rob Greene in 1996. The name was taken from a popular Playskool doll of the 1970s. Last year the band played the 12th Annual Crossroads Music Fest.

Instant Karma was on our show on, Wednesday, September 28, just before the band opened for C.W. Stoneking, at recordBar, 1520 Grand, Blvd, in Kansas City.

Colby Bales and Cody Calhoun met in High School. They have been playing music together for 5 years. They became friends after forming the band,

Instant Karma bass player Branden Moser has called the band, “a drug trip through the soul section of your local record store.”

Instant Karma! is a 4 piece psych/soul rock band from Kansas City, MO. Their influences range from The Black Keys to Syl Johnson to the Wu Tang Clan.

Matt Kesler and Scott Mize used to be in a band called Sylvan Grove. Jennie Ferguson and Scott Mize used to play in a band called Shotgun Solution. This was after the time of Jennie’s all-girl psych/pop band PMS. Doug Hitchcock has played with Matt Kesler in the Midtown Jazz Quartet. Doug has played with Freedie Johnston, and the band Near Death Experience. Matt Kesler also plays in The Pedajets and The Doo Dads.

Lawrence Field Day Fest is one of SHE SAID’s first public appearances.

Fally Afani, the Editor, Founder, Reporter, and Photographer of I Heart Local Music, joins us for our entire second hour to play music from artists playing Lawrence Field Day Fest. Fally Afani is an award-winning journalist with a career spanning more than 15 years in media. She has worked extensively in radio, television, newspapers, magazines, and more. Fally’s work has been featured in magazines, newspapers, and television stations across Kansas. She received several Kansas Association of Broadcasters awards as well as an Edward R. Murrow award for her online work in journalism. I Heart Local Music is a place for music lovers in Lawrence to gather. It was started out of a deep love and appreciation for the local music scene. 19. The Bad Ideas – “On The News”

[Released as a full length recording on cassette. The Bad Ideas is an American punk band from Kansas City, Missouri formed in August 2011. They are influenced by early 80’s punk. Their EP, Worse Thoughts, was recorded on January 22, 2012 and released March, 2012. Their first self-produced full length, Lesson #1 was released March 8, 2013. They released a 7″ split with Red Kate in May 2014. Although their line-up has changed since this recording, original members Break-a-dawn on lead vocals, and Britt Adair on lead guitar are joined by George Magers on drums, and Merry Contrary on bass.]
