[Janelle Monáe moved from Kansas City, Kansas to New York to study theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Her original planwas to pursue a career on Broadway, but she soon changed her mind and returned to music. After moving to Atlanta, GA, where she met OutKast’s Big Boi, Monáefounded the Wondaland Arts Society with like-minded young artists and madeappearances on Outcast’s Idlewild, where Janelle is featured on the songs “Call The Law” and “In Your Dreams”. In 2007, Monáe released her first solo work, titled Metropolis. A few months later she wassigned to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ label, Bad Boy Records.]

Emily Behrmann is General Manager of the Performing Arts Series at Johnson County Community College presenting cutting-edgeperformances, celebrity names, diverse cultures, dance and music. Emily joined us today to talk about their upcoming season of shows.
The 2013 – 2014 Season is connecting with local artists andcompanies, including: KC Ballet, Owen/Cox Dance Group and Bach Aria Soloists.
The season will also feature headliners: Rita Moreno, Taj Mahal, Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby and Arturo Sandoval.
The series also features 6 shows in the Polsky Theatre, nextdoor to Yardley Hall, including the Kinsey Sicks, America’s Favorite Dragapella Beauty shop Quartet, starring Trampolina – also known to KC audiences as Daisy Bucket.

We first met The Clementines as a duo Tim Jenkins & Nicole Springer when they played LIVE on our show last year on April 25. Nicole Springer grew up in Oak Grove, MO, and graduated H.S. in 2004. She studied Music-Vocal/Choral at Missouri State University, in Springfield, MO, and studied Special Education with Music at Metropolitan MO CC, in KCMO. Tim Jenkins grew up in KC. Studied at UMKC. He has been playing music for over10 years. Last year veteran drummer Stephanie Williams joined the band onDrums, along with Travis Earnshaw who joined the band on Bass.
