[The 34th studio album in 36 years from the prolific master of music. On April 18, 2014, Prince released a new single entitled, “The Breakdown”. Along with news that a new album was in the works, an expanded edition of Purple Rain would be released for the 30th anniversary, and he has re-signed with his former label, Warner Bros. Records after an 18-year split. He also gained the rights to his master recordings from the 1980s, which had been a point of contention for his initial split with the major label.]

2. The Breeders – “Invisible Man”

[“Last Splash was the Breeders 3rd studio release. The band formed in 1988 by Kim Deal of the Pixies and Throwing Muses’ Tanya Donelly. The current line-up consists of the original Last Splash formation. Kim Deal (vocals and guitar), her twin sister Kelley Deal (vocals and guitar), Jim Macpherson (drums) and Josephine Wiggs (bass). The band’s website, Breedersdigest.net reports that Since completing their eight-month, 60-date world tour performing Last Splash, they’ve been working on new material. This September, the band will debut a selection of new songs with a series of dates leading up to a show at the Hollywood Bowl where—joined by Carrie Bradley—we’ll share the stage with Neutral Milk Hotel.]

Mũcũgũ Wahome and musicians from Mount Veritas Orchestra: Sarah Preston, Evan Hoffman, and Aryana Nemate joined us to share new recordings and live performances from “Water Is Food” a recording to benefit: Water.org and Cultivate Kansas City. We are premiered the music from “IRIO,” the Food Album. (Music from “MAJI” the Water Album premiered on River Trade Radio, Aug. 31.)

Also joining us was, Ami Freeberg of Cultivate KC.

Gamelan Genta Kasturi, Mount Veritas Orchestra, and Metatone collaborated together for this special project.

Mũcũgũ Wahome told us how he discovered the music of Metatone from one of the band’s members Rabbit Killer aka Mark Smeltzer who he met at the Rural Grit happy Hour at The Brick.

Mũcũgũ Wahome, told us about how the polyrhythms of Metatone reminded him at the Kikuyu music of Kenya.

Metatone’s May 14, 2013 release called “Metatone” was recorded & mixed by Metatone from 2012 to 2013. With songs written by J. Ashley Miller & Metatone. The album’s credits: J. Cultivate KC helped to found the New Roots for Refugees with Catholic Charities in 2008.

Cultivate KC launched Get Growing KC in partnership with KC Community Gardens & Lincoln University Cooperative Extension in 2011.

Cultivate KC also organized and presents Urban Farm & Garden Tour, that starting next your will be an annual event.

Cultivate KC is interested in helping to support sustainable, community- engaged farms are scattered throughout the metro, providing an abundance of fresh and healthy food to city residents. There are opportunities for people to earn income through farming. Unused spaces are turned to food producing farms and gardens, and appropriately scaled agriculture is understood and practiced as an integral part of a beautiful, lively, and healthy neighborhood.

Katy Guillen, Claire Adams & Stephanie Williams were finalist for the International Blues Competition in Memphis, and winners of the 2014 Pitch Music Award for Best Emerging Band. Katy Guillen & the Girls play an Album Release Show at Knuckleheads on Saturday, September 6, and on the following evening, September 7, they’ll perform an acoustic benefit performance for 90.1 FM, in the Gospel Lounge, at Knuckleheads.
