Dedric joins us to share details about the Kosmic City – LUDI Summer Dark Music Festival, Saturday, July 12, at 7:00pm, featuring RE:VIS:ER, Stranger Gallery (MINN), Brave Boy (Wichita), Cables & Lace, and Elska for a night of Darkwave, Post-Punk, Dreampop, and Dark Ambient. At 11:00 we talk with Miki P & Rachel Lovelace of The Swallowtails, who since 2018 have released two albums and two EPs, played hundreds of shows and festivals around the Midwest, and been awarded The Pitch Magazine’s ‘Best Of Kansas City’ for the last two years. They released their EP LUCKY PENNY on February 20, 2024. The duo has brought in Heidi Gluck to produce their new album PERSPECTIVE to be released in two parts. The first 5 songs, of which they’ve already started recording, will released in the Fall of 2025 digitally. The full album, will include 6 more songs, and will be released in 2026 both digitally and physically on vinyl. The band has launched a new Kickstarter Campaign to help cover the costs of producing and marketing a new vinyl album: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theswallowtails. The Swallowtails, Casii Stephan, and Cheery will play Greenwood Social Hall, 1750 Belleview Ave, KCMO on Thursday, July 10 at 7:00PM Doors at 6:30.

At 11:30 Mark welcomes Kai McGarry, a 17 year old artist, shaped by his upbringing in the Kansas City jazz community, with mentorship from regional jazz greats and experience playing drums in various ensembles. Kai McGarry self-produced his very own debut album at the age 12. His newest album, SCARLET will be officially released on August 1, 2025. For SCARLET, Kai McGarry wrote, produced, recorded, and arranged the vintage pop, jazz-inflected record in his basement, and Duane Trower mixed it at Weights and Measures Soundlab. On this record, McGarry performed all of the instruments, except for bass guitar (recorded by Nick May), trombone (recorded by Zander Wolf), and saxophone (recorded by Brayden Evans). The album is a reflection of a very short snapshot of time, one that included a shift in the people in his life as well as his priorities.
