At 11:00, Philip blue owl Hooser is our guest host & producer for a special show that will dance us through the history of a 112-year-old KC landmark, The Folly Theatre. Philip will share music and stories of the Folly from its early vaudeville days through its rebirth as a burlesque house to entertain soldiers during WWII; from its near-destruction in the 1970s to The New Century Follies — bringing vaudeville back to the Folly. Philip talks with Dr. Felicia Hardison Londré (Curators’ Professor of Theatre) at UMKC. Philip also welcomes special guests: Annie Cherry, Damian Blake, and Daisy Bucket, who’ll all be appearing in The New Century Follies at the Folly Theater, on Friday, April 6, 2012, at 9:30pm.
The Folly Theater opened in 1900 as “The Century,” starting out as a vaudeville house featuring variety arts, comics, and singers. Burlesque was also presented, in big production numbers with special themes and moving tableaus on stage. Now 112 years later KC’s most creative performers are teaming up with The Folly Theatre to bring vaudeville, variety, and dancing girls back to the stage. The New Century Follies DEBUT SHOW at the Folly Theater, on Friday, April 6, 2012, at 9:30pm, will feature: Annie Cherry, Damian Blake, Opal Malone, Sweet Louise, Voler Aerial Acrobatics, Jason Divad, Phil Hoosier, Daisy Bucket, Violet Vendetta, Veronica Voodoo, Vlad Fortuna (St. Louis), Ruby von Blush, Jessalyn Kincaid, Shelby Floyd and with ALL LIVE MUSIC by The People’s Liberation Big Band led by Brad Cox.
