Mark plays New & MidCoastal Releases from: Violet and the Undercurrents, Calvin Arsenia, The Latenight Callers, Kangaroo Knife Fight, The Lucky, The Sluts, The Electric Lungs, Black On Black, White Girl, Antony & The Johnsons, Thurston Moore, Ariel Pink, Lily & Madeleine, Chrissie Hynde, Rosanne Cash, and Anastacia Mc Cleskey, Sutton Foster & the Broadway Cast of “Violet.”
At 10:30 we talk with company members of Spinning Tree Theatre‘s Kansas City premiere of “Violet,” a musical by composer Jeanine Tesori and lyricist Brian Crawley based on the short story “The Ugliest Pilgrim” by Doris Betts. It tells the story of a young disfigured woman who embarks on a journey by Greyhound bus from her farm in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she believes a televangelist will heal her. “Violet” opened on Broadway at the Roundabout Theatre on April 20, 2014. The Kansas City premiere is co-directed by Spinning Tree Theatre founders: Michael Grayman and Andrew Parkhurst and features Lauren Braton as Violet. “Violet” runs through November 23 at Just Off Broadway Theatre, 3051 Central, in Penn Valley Park. At 11:00 Mr. Krysztof Nemeth of The Latenight Callers, joins us to share details about Noir City Kansas City – The 1st Annual Kansas City Film Noir Festival, November 14 – 16, 2014, featuring 10 Film Noir Classics, discussions, and special performances. The opening night event is: Noir City KC – The Nightclub, Friday, November 14, at 9:30 pm, at The Chesterfield Club inside the Alamo Drafthouse, featuring actress Peggy Cummins, The Latenight Callers, jazz singer Laura Ellis, & burlesque beauty Evie Lovelle. At 11:30 Mark welcomes members of the Kansas City based band Kangaroo Knife Fight who’ll play music live in our 90.1 FM Studios. Native Australian, Anthony Avis, lead vocalist, with Brandon Skeens on guitar, Gus Rechtien on bass, and Ian on drums, will tell a few stories and play a few tracks from their debut self-titled release.
