Today our Guest Co-Host is Bill Sundahl. Bill Sundahl founded the Crossroads Music Fest in 2005. Bill has been joining us on Wednesday MidDay Medley for 22 years now sharing information about the music and venues and collaborations associated with CMF.

After a varied set of careers that led to the Fundraising Leadership Series at the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 2016, Bill’s passion for connecting people with ways to grow our community took root. Bill Sundahl spent eight years on staff at KKFI 90.1 FM. Bill started in 2014 as KKFI’s Events & Volunteer Coordinator, the same year as the 10th Annual Crossroads Music Fest. Bill brought the CMF to KKFI as a fundraiser and community event. Bill then became 90.1 FM KKFI’s Development Director and created new associations for KKFI with big shows at The Folly Theatre collaborations with Midwest Music Foundations, Lawrence Music Alliance, MixMaster Music Conference, Folk Alliance International, ARTSKC and other arts and community groups. Bill left KKFI Staff to serve as vice president of corporate partnerships at The Beacon a non-profit online news outlet covering Kansas City. Three years ago Bill left The Beacon to work as founder Owner / CEO / and Principal Consultant at Z&W Unlimited, offering fundraising, operations, strategy and planning advice to non profit media groups across the country, including continuing to serve KKFI in grant writing and training. For the last 13 years, Bill has played bass and provided vocals for the Kansas City super group, Starhaven Rounders. Bill is married to Wende Williamson and they have two daughters. My love of all mediums has really placed me on an interesting path from playing in grunge bands to gospel music & conducting jazz orchestras. There’s just been an insane variety of people and art that I’ve been blessed to be around because I just keep following what I love in life. In the last 10 years I’ve really been experimenting with pairing my visual imagination with my music. This has led to some very surrealistic productions in video, costume & lighting design, and live performance. These skills allowed me to open up a performance venue known as the Westport Bowery in 2021 that I just sold this January.    [Paris Williams is a 26-year old artist from Muskegon, Michigan in the midst of redefining the bedroom pop label. Employing his own sound that he’s dubbed, “bittersweet,” Williams never shuts away from his DIY aesthetic – producing his own work to maintain full creative flexibility. Premiering in December of 2019 with his debut album, DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, Paris is a believer in hitting the ground running and then just never letting off the gas. 7. Max Cooper III – “Maybe Someday”

   [From tapping out rhythms on pots and pans as a small child to composing heartfelt, genre-blending songs, Max Cooper III has followed a musical journey that began before he could even remember. His passion ignited early when his parents bought an upright piano for his sister — but by age three Max was the one teaching himself piano by ear, keeping perfect time and writing songs by five.// “I just always loved playing the piano,” Max recalls. “It just came so naturally to me.” // In Feb. 2025 Max released his debut EP “The Overthinker”. Nearly two years in the making, the collection of 5 new songs takes listeners on a journey of self-reflection and emotional depth. It’s the culmination of years of songwriting, with some tracks reaching back to his high school days. // “All the songs share a common thread,” Max says of the EP. “I’m always in my own head way too much —my thoughts affecting my life, which is why I titled this project The Overthinker.” // The EP delves into the turbulence of internal struggles, often juxtaposing upbeat melodies with deeply poignant narratives. His music is a dynamic fusion of genres, weaving together acoustic pop, jazz, the occasional theatrical flair and whatever else ignites his creative spark. // First up is the vibrant single “Sadie” on Wednesday, December 4. Riding a percolating finger funk bass line and range of rhythmic devices, the track features an intense vocal that places Max in emotional no man’s land – pining for his dream girl who sends back mixed romantic and friend-zone messages. His crisp, sometimes percussive piano work punctuates the urgency and exhilaration of falling in love, while a lush string arrangement adds drama underscoring Max’s predicament. // “Sadie’ isn’t about one person — it’s a name I chose to sum up all the ‘friend zone’ experiences my friends and I have had,” Max shares. “It captures the intensity of being crazy over someone who doesn’t feel the same. With time and life experience you learn not to overthink moments like that, but you never forget how they felt.”// While the title track sets up the EP’s common premise, songs like “Check the Time” and “People That Put Me Down” peel back layers of vulnerability and resilience, reflecting his experiences with self-doubt, growth and the search for genuine connection. “People That Put Me Down” is especially personal, addressing his lifelong battle with people-pleasing, stemming from childhood experiences with bullying. // “It’s something I have literally struggled with my whole life,” admits Max. “The song is from the perspective of myself in elementary school. I was bullied a lot by the popular kids but I still thought they were so cool and wanted to be friends with them. Today, I still catch myself looking up to people that don’t respect me and it is something I am constantly working on.” // The closing track, “Charades,” portrays the heart-rending struggle to salvage an on-again, off-again relationship, woven through with musical nods that span 40 years of pop history. // Max Cooper III’s early influences were rooted in the epic storytelling of movie soundtracks — John Williams’s Star Wars scores, in particular, ignited his imagination and love for orchestral music. As his style evolved, the music and technical prowess of jazz legend Art Tatum became a driving inspiration. His education continued through high school, where he took music theory classes and dreamed of scoring films. Later, at the University of Kansas, he pursued a degree in music composition, balancing rigorous classical training with a blossoming interest in singer-songwriter pop. On piano he can effortlessly transition between styles as diverse as jazz standards and improvisations, cinematic themes, pop hits and video game music. Max’s formidable combination of open-mindedness and technical skill enable him to weave a rich tapestry of influences into his songwriting and arrangements, creating seamless, meaningful compositions. His songwriting process is as unpredictable as it is inspired, ideas often emerging at the most inconvenient times. — while driving, mid-workout, late at night or simply going about his day. He’ll stop in his tracks to capture melodies in voice memos, later refining them at the piano. // TikTok has been a game-changer in expanding his reach, with his energetic performances striking a chord with a wide audience. Initially, fans were drawn to his impressive piano skills but, over time, he used the platform to reveal more of himself, sharing not just the music but the person behind it. This digital presence has played a key role in cultivating a dedicated fanbase of 849K followers — a total of 1.4 million followers across various platforms. // Tapping Max’s diverse skillset and talent as an arranger and composer, he has developed music for an exciting new indie video game “Impuse” by designer Shelljump. The amazing concept takes players progressively through 5 stunning worlds each with it’s own art, vibe and music. The music is closely tied to game action and choices by players. “Impulse” is projected for 2026 release but you can preview it now HERE. // In addition to the “The Overthinker” EP in 2025 Max has released the single “Green Light”, co-produced with Tre’ Mutava, which combines amazing studio performances and digital production techniques to tell the story of romantic obsession and angst waiting for the green light on a relationship. Another single “Cooler Than Me” dropped Dec. 5 – Max’s unique re-arrangement of the Mike Posner song which he performed in the blind audition phase of NBC/PEACOCK’S Season 28 of “THE VOICE” with rave reviews from the show’s producers, music directors, musicians, celeb judges and fans. And Jan. 16, 2026 Max released his cover arrangement of the DJO hit “End of Beginning”, another request from fans who also saw his performance of the song on “THE VOICE”.     [Written in honor of Lonesome Cowboy Bill aka Bill Hilburn longtime KKFI DJ who hosted a show called Moby’s Trip on Sunday nights 10:00 to Midnight. Born and raised in the fertile ground of the Kansas City music scene, Amanda Fish formed her band in 2014, a Blues Rock and Americana trio featuring her from-the-gut vocal belting out impassioned lyrics over swampy guitar and rock-heavy drums, with a driving bassline that locks in the groove. She quickly cut and released her first album “Down In The Dirt” the following year on Vizztone Label Group. For that record she won the 2016 “Sean Costello Rising Star” Blues Blast Music Award. It was in central Arkansas where Baang’s passion for words and storytelling met his love for music and production. Baang graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Currently working for a nonprofit, Baang uses his experience and cultural awareness to mentor young creatives nationwide. Jeremiah writes: “My brother gave me this nickname when we were children (Believe Aspire Achieve Now Go). Even as a teenager while this nickname was gaining in popularity I knew I wanted to steward it well. I used to write stories and even now I’ll think of something or have lyrics written before I have the music for it. I’m not normally a person who wants to be in the forefront, but I’ve become used to it over the years. Music helps me cope with pain and helps me process through that pain. Sadness may look different from me to you, but it’s still sadness. One thing I’ve realized is that if I don’t know myself or love and accept myself, I can’t get to know and love others. I’m always thinking about what I can offer to encour-age and motivate others. In most of my music you will hear the common theme of triumph over circumstance. Not allowing adversity to keep you down. I loved the struggle growing up in Texarkana. It molded me and shaped me. It made me who I am today, but I’m never goin’ back to that way, to those struggles. Today I work with kids a lot, and that’s really broadened my perspective. I’m able to speak into their lives, and try to help them avoid mistakes I’ve made.
