Dwight Frizzell

At 10:15 Mark talks with Dwight Frizzell about his upcoming Helios performance on Wednesday, June 19, at 12:00 Noon, at Kansas City Art Institute. Dwight Frizzell is a Professor at KCAI, and is an internationally recognized artist whose work combines video, performance, installation, music, audio art, and writing. His projects emphasize research and a commonality between the fine and performing arts. Frizzell’s work about his boyhood neighbor, Harry S. Truman, was featured in the Peabody-awarded “Lost and Found Sound” series broadcast on National Public Radio. Frizzell has produced an opera based on the life of Charles Darwin. In addition to his B.F.A. degree from KCAI, he holds a terminal fine arts degree in Sound Design from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Jesus Loves The Atom Bomb

At 10:35, members of the band Jesus Loves The Atom Bomb join us in the 90.1 FM Studios to share music from their debut release, Merriam Shoals Sessions Vol. 1. Jesus Loves The Atom Bomb play the 2019 MIDFEST at the Bluemont Hotel, 1212 Bluemont Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas on June 15 at 2:15 PM, with multiple bands playing on three stages. 16 year old Johnny Hamil

At 11:00 Kansas City based musician, composer, and teacher Johnny Hamil joins us to share new music from his upcoming third GAV7D release, Punk Funk Polka. Johnny plays in the band Pamper The Madman, and his band Mr. Marco’s V7 plays the first Thursday of the month at The Ship. Johnny Hamil is also a teacher of bass players and he was recently featured in the latest season of Queer Eye on Netflix. Johnny Hamil’s annual KC BASS Workshop is June 25 through June 29 at Shawnee Mission North High School in the music department (park in West parking lot). The KCBW Bass Orchestra concert is the final night June 29th at 7:00 PM and features workshop participants performing with faculty. More information at http://www.kcbassworkshop.com

Instant Karma

At 11:30 Cole Bales and Cody Calhoun of the Kansas City based band Instant Karma join us to share a new recording they’ve just completed. Members include: Cole Bales on vocals & guitar, Cody Calhoun on guitar, Branden Moser on bass, and Zach Harris on drums. Instant Karma will play their last live show on Saturday, June 22, at 8:00 PM at recordBar, 1520 Grand Boulevard, KCMO for SoundMachineKC with Pink Royal, and The Maytags.
