Non-Commercial, Community Radio, means that three times a year, we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming, to ask YOU our beautiful-listeners, to help us continue 90.1 FM’s unique, 24-7 programming, that is…essentially free to you, to tune into. While the spirit of this station is kept alive by hundreds of volunteers who passionately donate their time and abilities to keep the transmission of our 100,000-watt, signal alive. We are a operated by a not-for-profit organization, incorporated over 25 years ago, called The MidCoast Radio Project. We’re non-profit but we still have to pay the electric bill, the rent on our fully accessible production studios and offices, the insurance, and for our small staff. Even though we have hundreds of committed volunteers, who donate thousands of hours every year, producing radio shows, answering phones, creating websites, producing benefits, rewiring the board, setting up our computer system, we still need YOU, our listener, to keep us alive!

YOU are the reason we were able to go onto the airwaves 25 years ago. You are the reason we’ve been able to continue all these years.

A renowned fiddler, Betse Ellis, is known by many as a founding member of The Wilders. Betse is on the verge of officially releasing her 2nd full-length solo release “High Moon Order” and her album release show, Friday, June 14 at The Brick. We talked with Betse about touring, her musical life, and her new photographic exhibit of her original works now showing also at The Brick.

Mike West co produced Betse’s new recordings.

Betse is adept at the difficult technique of singing while playing the fiddle. Betse performs material, drawn from traditional American fiddle tunes, spirituals, original tunes, and her “personal old-time music”, influenced by avant-garde artists like Talking Heads, punk pioneers The Clash, and 19th century art music composer Gabriel-Marie.
