[Follow up tho the band’s 2011 release Lonely Twin. This is Jordan Geiger’s Lawrence based band with Nathan Dixey, Taylor Holenbeck, Nathan Wilder. Jordan Geiger is the keyboardist for The Appleseed Cast and the occasional member of Shearwater and Minus Story. The choir on “Come Back To Life” is by Cowboy Indian Bear and the HIPS, by the way of The Record Machine.]

10:30 – Interview with Chris Haghirian & Nathan Reusch
Chris Haghirian has worked for The KC Star for 13 years and helped launch INK in April of 2008. Chris works on the marketing side of INK and puts together all of the music promotions. Chris has been instrumental in the organization of The Middle of The Map Fest. In addition he has helped organize The MidCoast Takeover of SXSW Music Festival featuring KC and Lawrence area bands. Chris also is a regular co-host and contributor to The Mailbox, a weekly podcast radio show produced and hosted by Michael Byars that is available the the Midwest Music Foundation’s website: midwestmusicfound.org.
Nathan Reusch is co-founder and manager of The Record Machine, an Independent KC based record label, founded in 2003. With Chris Haghirian, Nathan is the co-mastermind, of The Middle of The Map Festival. Nathan also DJs in clubs from time to time and like Chris is a Passionate lover of music.

Now in its third year The Middle of The Music Fest will take place April 4th through 6th, featuring over 130 Local and national Emerging bands, performing in the Middle of The Map, at the recordBar, Riot Room, The Uptown Theater, Union, Gusto Lounge, and Westport Coffeehouse. 141 bands participating in this year’s festival, of those bands over 80 have KC connections, and I’m proud to say, that we have played from over 66 of these bands on Wednesday MinDay Medley in the past weeks.
Deerhoof, Grizzly Bear, The Joy Formidable, Tennis, Own Pallett, Iceage, Jeff The Brotherhood, Divine Fits… these are a few of the national bands participating with local and regional bands Nathan talked about how the festival comes up with that special mix of local and national.
Venues include: RecordBar, Riot Room, Uptown Theater, Union, Gusto Lounge, Westport Coffeehouse, Open Fire Pizza.
Besides venues, there are showcases involving Golden Sound Records, Money Wolf Music, High Dive Records, The Buzz, The Bridge, i Heart Local Music, MOKAN Twang, tell us about the showcases and day parties.

[Ben Grimes, Josh Wiedenfeld, Beckie Trost, John Mitchell, and Jeffrey Harvey. “The brainchild of Ben Grimes (The Golden Republic on Astralwerks Records), a Chicago native whose roots grip firmly in the ’77 Berlin sounds of Brian Eno, David Bowie and Iggy Pop, while embracing the ethos and attack of early American and English indie rock.” Originally started as Grimes’ post-The Golden Republic solo project, Soft Reeds became a full band in late 2009, and released the critically acclaimed ‘Soft Reeds are Bastards’ in 2010 which ranked #2 on our list of the 100 Best Recordings of 2010.

[Winner of The Deli’s Best Emerging Kansas City Artist of 2012. Radkey is a band made up of three teenage brothers Darrion, Isaiah, and Solomon. Their influences include The Who and Nirvana. Tim Finn wrote in the KC Star, on Thursday, March 21, that The St. Joe band band traveled to New York, in February, to record their new EP at the Wreckroom. Radkey played several show for the SXSW Music Festival and were written about in the New York Times and the Atlantic.]

Kansas City based singer, songwriter, and musician, Claire Adams, is an integral part of multiple area bands including: Claire & The Crowded Stage, Appropriate Grammar, Hidden Pictures, The Katy Guillen Trio, and Quirk & Ruckus. Claire Adams grew up in Topeka and went to college in Nashville.

Claire talked about how one of the reasons she ended up being in so many bands, was because when she first moved to KC, three years ago, she wanted to make friends.
Claire grew up in a small farming town in Kansas. She went to High School in Topeka, went to college in Nashville. Claire lived in Nashville for 7 years before coming to KC.
Claire talked about how it would cost $2000.00 a night, for The Crowded Stage to happen in Nashville. Claire talked about the KC Music Scene, and the generous spirit of collaboration that exists between all of these musicians.

Claire & The Crowded Stage are currently working on a new EP at Sangha Studios, with Jerod Rivers. Sangha Studios is also where Quirk & Ruckus are recording music and also where Vi Tran is working on his new recording.
When did you discover music, when did you start playing?
Claire (like everyone in The Crowded Stage) is a multi-instrumentalist, switching between bass in Appropriate Grammar, Ukulele in Quirk & Ruckus, and Hidden Pictures, you also guitar, piano and drums.
You are all multi-instrumentalists, but do you have a love of one instrument in particular?
